May Day is Lei Day
Kicking off May with some onolicious hawaiian food! May day is Lei day in Hawaii nei!! Today was the best day ever in elementary! May Day was the only day you go to school and have no classes!! The official first Lei Day was held on May 1, 1928, and everyone in Honolulu was encouraged to wear a lei. Festivities are held downtown with hula, music, lei making demonstrations, exhibits, and lei making contests. Only in Hawaii we celebrate Lei Day, so get Lei'd. I'll take a Pua Kini Kini lei please?! Have a good one.
"...May Day is Lei Day in Hawai`i Garlands of flowers ev'rywhere,
All of the colors in the rainbow Maidens with blossoms in their hair
Flowers that mean we should be happy, Throwing aside a load of care,
Oh, May Day is Lei Day in Hawai`i Lei Day is happy day out there."
